Best Places to Camp in the US

Summer is finally here in the United States and for many families that means packing up the family tent or camper and hitting the highways. Whether you are looking for the perfect place to fish, swim, or sleep under the stars, these camping destinations will have you wishing you had a few extra nights of marshmallow roasting around a campfire.

1. Green Mountain National Forest: Vermont

Located in southwestern and central Vermont, this four season recreational forest tends to be most popular in the fall when the leaves have changed. That being said, it is a perfect location for camping and exploring any time of the year. With nearly 400,000-acres of land and over 2000 archeological and historical sites located here, there is always something to explore and discover. Whether you like to hike, ski, bike, camp, fish, or hunt, the Green Mountain National Forest can provide you with the experience you seek.

2. Pine Grove Furnace State Park: Pennsylvania

Located at the northern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountain chain, this park is popular due to the fact that the Appalachian Trail runs through it. The 2000+mile trail is a busy hiking spot that brings in nearly 2.5 million people each year. There are a number of camping opportunities that exist here including the Charcoal Hearth Campground that has 71 sites for travel trailers and tents. Also nearby is the Paymasters Cabin, which has central heating for those who camp in cooler months, and the Ironmaster’s Mansion, which is a youth hostel that is often used by Appalachian Trail trekkers.

3. Yosemite National Park: California

If you truly seek to “get away from it all,” then this may be the perfect camping location for you and your family. A large part of the park is designated wilderness which means that cars are not allowed to travel through it. It also means that there are no formal roads or electricity in this area either. What this means for you is that you can set up your campsite and pretty much be guaranteed some peace and tranquility for the duration of your visit.

Each one of these locations offers a peaceful escape from the chaos of everyday life. This year, when you plan your vacation, pick a spot where you can unplug and enjoy some quality time with your family.
