Many of the most popular scams and tactics used by thieves are quite common around the globe being used in some form by thieves and scam artists at popular destinations around the world. Though there is no way to ensure you will not become a victim, knowing the common scams and what to look for or avoid can certainly help. Take a look at a few of the most popular scams around the world and know what to watch for. Be an informed traveler and make the most of your journeys with tips and reviews from Bill Bailey Travel.

Distraction Techniques – Dont be caught off guard when you travel. Distraction techniques can be anything from a child to a man, someone dressed fancy or a beggar on the street, anything to get your mind off protecting your money or bags.

Fake Police – Though this may be more common outside of the U.S., it can still be anywhere. If a “officer” stops you and you feel uneasy, use your best judgment and be careful. If it seems strange, ask for proof and if you are still worried, call the police yourself. Never go with someone who cannot verify who they are and never give them money.

Taxi Scams – All cabs should be licensed and have their license displayed. If they are not, DO NOT go. Though most scams are quite harmless including inflated fares, they can be much worse. Know where you are going,be aware of your surroundings and always use licensed cabs.

Beggars – Though we might have the desire to help those less fortunate. If you would like to help, do it through the proper channels. Donate to local charities, or donate your time, there are plenty of ways you can help.

These are just a few of the many scams which can be found at popular tourist destinations around the globe. Don’t find yourself a victim, be informed and stay aware of your surrounding when you travel and make the most of your time when you travel.
